“Weekend in Jiangsu” Debuts in Shanghai, Showcasing the Charm of Jiangsu Culture & Tourism

To bring Jiangsu’s premium cultural and tourism resources closer to the expatriate communities living in the Yangtze River Delta and enhance the global visibility of the “Charm of Jiangsu” brand, the Jiangsu Tourism (Yangtze River Delta) Promotion Center hosted the “Weekend in Jiangsu” public event in Shanghai from August 29 to 31.

The event offered an immersive cultural journey through a diverse lineup of experiences: melodic Pingtan performances and lively traditional puppet shows highlighted Jiangsu’s artistic heritage, while hands-on workshops—such as lacquer-fan painting, sachet making and paper-cutting—added creative fun to the program. Overseas influencers, professional consultations and on-the-street interviews further amplified the event’s reach among international audiences.

At the themed booth of “Charm of Jiangsu” Meriem, a YouTube travel creator with nearly one million followers, filmed on site to introduce the 240-hour visa-free transit policy and Jiangsu’s six themed travel routes to her global audience.

In the intangible cultural heritage zone, Jiangsu’s cultural creations and snacks were displayed in full. Visitors crafted lacquer fans, blended herbal sachets, and tried traditional sugar painting—packing a taste of Jiangsu to take home. Lucas from Germany hung his freshly made sachet on his backpack: “It has mugwort and Suzhou sandalwood. I’m bringing a piece of Jiangnan’s summer back to Europe!” he said.

Combining offline immersion with online amplification, the three-day event extended its influence for nearly three months. It successfully engaged Shanghai’s expatriate community, built cultural bridges, and inspired more people to embrace the idea of “A Glimpse of Jiangnan — A Weekend Away.”
